Love is a lot of things; I don’t think one person has the same definition for it. Love feeds you more than any nourishment; you feel full in the presence of love. I believe it’s one of the best feelings in the world. One of those emotions you just can’t live without. Falling in love with yourself, falling in love with another person, the love for a mother, love for a child, a friend, a pet; it all feels great. Everybody has their own meaning to it and to understand a persons love, is to love them. If that makes any sense. We all don’t love alike, we all love the best way we know how, and when we express love into our relationships we inedible impressions on people who we share it with. Love makes you feel like you can do anything, when it’s pure, it has no limits.
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres. Love never fails.” -1 Corinthians 13:4-8
The Hebrew word for love, ahavah, reveals this true definition of love, the word ahavah is built upon the root consonants h‑v, which means “to give.” In order for love to be real love, it has to be expressed as an action. You cannot simply say you love someone and that’s enough. You have to show people you love them. You do that by putting their needs before your own, doing simple things just to see them smile, and making life easier for the both of you. The list of actions could go on, but all in all you can’t have love without action. They go hand in hand. Feelings can often be deceptive. Sometimes, what we perceive as love may in fact be another emotion. But actions cannot be mistaken.
“Each time you love, love as deeply as if it were forever/ only nothing is eternal”- Audre Lorde
Love doesn’t fail because we mess up from time to time. It fails when we fail to accept that we all do, and then think something is wrong instead of making things right. Love isn’t life without conflict. It’s about wanting and working to overcome it together. If someone doesn’t love you the way you feel like they should, it’s okay to walk away. You owe it to yourself. There’s so much love to give and receive to stick around to someone who is incapable of loving you.
“People cannot give you what they do not have”
Love shouldn’t be mediocre. If any and everybody can get the love that you give, I don’t want it. I don’t want any kind of love that doesn’t excite me. I think love is and should be exciting, extraordinary, invigorating, fulfilling, bountiful, and idyllic. Maybe ive watched too many movies, or listened to too many love songs. I just believe that someone felt all of those emotions, and decided to share them the best way they knew how. Personally, that’s a feeling I think everyone should have and experience. Therefore, love is….undefined.
